Blue Danube – Britain’s First Operational Nuclear Weapon

Presented by John Weller

PLEASE NOTE: THIS PRESENTATION WILL BE AT BDAC

John was a navigator-radar on a Vulcan squadron in the 1960s during the Cold War when they were the nuclear deterrent. It was here that he first made a close acquaintance with nuclear weapons. He will describe the path which led to the Blue Danube, a weapon that was declared operational 3 years before it was tested. It was not until the mid-1950s that the 3 V bomber types (Valiant, Vulcan and Victor) were delivered to the RAF and became operational; the first live drop took place from a Vickers Valiant.

Non-members £5 (inclusive of tea/coffee).
Members’ donations welcome.
